Will moving my website affect my domain or email? Print

  • 0

A website move does not automatically require moving your domain registration or email service. Hosting, domain registration, DNS and email can be managed separately.

Before a move, we review the current website platform, hosting, access requirements and email setup. We confirm which services will change, the work required and any costs.

Domain and DNS

Often the website can be connected by changing its DNS records while leaving the domain registered with the current provider. A registrar transfer is a separate decision. If nameservers also need changing, the required DNS records must be carried across as part of the agreed plan.

Email

We check where email is hosted and preserve the required mail records when changing the website connection. If mailboxes are supplied by a hosting service being cancelled, that needs a separate plan before cancellation. Do not cancel the old service until the agreed checks and any required transfers are complete.

Moving email accounts or historical messages is separate from changing the website connection. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and cPanel mail have different requirements.

Send Damien the website address and what you want to move. We will confirm the scope, sequence and access needed before making changes.
